This thesis addresses the issue: "How to integrate Shou Sugi Ban as a creation process today in Western culture?".

Starting with the technical and historical analysis of this wood preservation method to its aesthetic and even philosophical impact, this research work allowed me to discover a new facet of wood. It also opened my eyes to our relationship with material and how we can quickly go astray by trying to apply principles that go against its nature.
